Lilongwe, October 3 – Thirteen Malawian community organizations today received grants totaling $175,000 (MK130million) under the U.S. Embassy’s Economic Support Fund-Health and Development Africa Challenge Pilot Program at a ceremony held today at the U.S. Embassy.
This year’s Health and Development grants will fund construction of three girls’ hostels, three libraries/laboratories, one under-five clinic, one expectant mother’s waiting shelter, fifteen shallow wells in hard to reach areas, a girls sanitary facility, a cancer screening and awareness center, and furnish one girls’ hostel with beds and mattresses.
Addressing the grantees, Ambassador Palmer said, “We are proud to contribute to improving the living standards in your communities. We estimate that over 35,500 people will directly benefit from these projects. You have seen a vision of a better life for your families, of clean drinking water for your communities, of a safe place for your girls to go to school. And through your commitment and contributions, the United States Government is proud to partner with you to make these visions a reality.”
