U.S. Ambassador to Malawi Virginia Palmer today handed over a library building and books to Chigumukire Community Day Secondary School in the area of Traditional Authority Kuntaja in Blantyre District. The community library was constructed in 2016 with funding from the U.S. Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Fund and is supporting over 400 students and community members surrounding the school.
Addressing the gathering at the handover ceremony held at Chigumukire CDSS, Ambassador Palmer said, “We are happy to help empower students and community members by providing an enabling environment for them to study and improve their education. It is through education that people break out of poverty. Within one year, this project has already contributed to increased motivation among students as seen by reduced number of transfers compared to previous years.”
