Embassy Lilongwe welcomes proposals for funding under the U.S. President’s Emergency Program for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Small Grants Program. PEPFAR is a key partner and investor in the Government of Malawi’s national response to combat HIV and AIDS. The PEPFAR Small Grants support grassroots, community-run projects throughout Malawi. For this round of funding, priority activities encourage back to care efforts, promote treatment literacy, disseminate accurate and authentic HIV public messages, provide solutions to stigma and discrimination, and enhance HIV prevention, care, and support.
Grants for up to $10,000 are available. Projects that address needs within disadvantaged or marginalized populations are encouraged.
Self-Help Program Application Schedule
- Application Period: April 1, 2022 – May 31, 2022
- Grant Award Announcement: September 2022.
- Limit of ONE (1) proposal per organization.
- Funds cannot be comingled with funds from other donors
- Funding is competitive and not guaranteed.
Eligible applicants are community-based organizations (CBOs), youth networks, faith-based organizations (FBOs), and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that work directly with communities in promoting HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, treatment, and adherence practices. Applicants should be organized, motivated, and able to show a real community need. The proposed project must be feasible and based on the local socio-economic context. Applicants should have adequate internal controls and financial monitoring procedures in place, and strong ties to and support from the local community and local governmental bodies.
