While rains have abated in parts of Malawi, the impacts of flooding continue to reverberate. The latest figures show 79 people dead and 153 missing. 174,000 have been displaced by the floods and over 638,000 have lost their crops and fields for the current planting season. The United States has already contributed over $2 million in emergency food and non-food supplies to help flood-affected families and communities in Malawi. Americans who want to help contribute to the response are encouraged to visit the United Nations’ Malawi Floods donation text “Malawifloods” to 41444 from the United States.
