American Center Lilongwe
Learn more about the United States of America through our American Spaces in Malawi! The American Center Lilongwe, located on the ground floor of the Old Mutual Building in Lilongwe’s City Center, is open to members Monday – Wednesday 8:30 am – 12:00pm and 1:30 – 4:30 pm and on Friday 8:30 am-12:00 pm. The Center is closed on Thursday.
Membership
Membership is free and open to the general public. You may apply for membership by visiting the American Center Lilongwe, located on the ground floor of the Old Mutual Building, in Lilongwe’s City Center.
Services Available
The American Center Lilongwe offers a range of academic resources including: books, journals and periodicals, multimedia information resources including access to an extensive electronic library known as “ELibraryUSA,” as well as free internet access. Center staff can provide academic research assistance on topics related to the United States. Queries are accepted by telephone, e-mail, or in person during open hours.
Programs
The American Center Lilongwe offers regular interactive programming related to U.S. foreign policy, including discussions and debates of U.S. historical and current issues, film screenings offering insight into American culture and values, and information dissemination regarding the U.S.-Malawi relationship. Upcoming programs are announced on the Embassy’s Facebook page and website, as well as in person at the American Center Lilongwe. The Center also offers a regular book club meeting on the first Thursday of every month.
